愛媛県には他の地域のものとは遺伝的に異なるものが生息していることが知られていたが,この個体群は,ドジョウ(台湾系統?)とカラドジョウの交雑に由来するものであることが明らかとなった.ドジョウとカラドジョウは野外での交雑例はほとんどないことから,養殖や輸送の過程で交雑したと考えられている(Okada et al. 2020).
